Our History: Crown Jewel® Insurance (CJI) was formed in 2021 by industry veteran and cyber insurance pioneer, Mary Guzman, to provide risk management and insurance advisory solutions focused on filling gaps in the market specifically addressing trade secrets. According to Ocean Tomo, 90% of the value of the S&P 500 is comprised of IP assets, yet billions of dollars and millions of man hours annually are focused almost exclusively on managing and insuring the other 10%; the tangible assets we can see and touch.
In Ms. Guzman’s 30+ years of brokerage experience, consulting and placing insurance for F1000 companies, she recognized the lack of understanding and need for education around Intellectual Property risk . This created a significant opportunity for consulting and advisory work for senior corporate leadership, Boards of Directors, and other key stakeholders (such as PE/VC Firms). Thus the CJI consulting practice was born.
After 2 years of research, development and market negotiation, Trade Secret theft is finally insurable. As of February of 2023, Crown Jewel® Insurance and Chaucer, the global specialty (re)insurance group, announced the launch of a new insurance policy to provide insurance for companies’ trade secrets. The new policy is the first in the market to offer protection for the potentially huge loss in value a business can suffer if its trade secrets are stolen and made public or leaked to a competitor. Chaucer will be providing lead underwriting capacity; the program will be brokered by Acrisure London Wholesale.
